Les Marronniers: A New Hospital for Improved Patient Care

The Regional Psychiatric Centre Les Marronniers, located in Tournai, is embarking on a major modernisation project of its secure psychiatric unit (HPS). This project, the result of in-depth discussions with the care teams, aims to provide a therapeutic environment that is better suited to the needs of patients.

Specifically, the new buildings will allow for:

  • Reducing the occupancy rate per unit: Each patient will have a larger personal space and more individualized support.
  • Intensifying care: A strengthened care team will be able to offer a variety of therapeutic activities tailored to each individual profile.
  • Creating a more humane environment: Living and activity spaces will be designed to promote the well-being and socialisation of patients.

Furthermore, the demolition of certain outdated buildings will enable the construction of modern and functional infrastructures that better meet the current requirements for psychiatric care.

CIT Blaton will carry out this project in collaboration with Dherte, Galère and Denys.

The first phase of the project:

The first construction phase will include three major buildings and their outdoor spaces.

A multifunctional central building: This building will serve as the main entrance and will house numerous functions.

  • Reception and administration: The hall will be the first point of contact for visitors and patients. The administrative offices will be grouped in this building.
  • Living and activity spaces: A day centre, sports halls and workshops will be made available to patients to promote their well-being and reintegration.
  • Care units: Individual rooms will be offered in this building for personalised care.
  • Logistics: Delivery and unloading areas will be located in this building to facilitate daily operations.

Two wings for specialised care: The north and south wings will be dedicated to intensive care and crisis situations. They will extend over 2 levels and will include:

  • Secure care units: Individual rooms will be furnished for patients requiring increased supervision.
  • Adapted living spaces: Living spaces will be created to enable patients to relax and interact with each other.
  • Medical services: The offices of doctors, psychologists and physiotherapists will be grouped in these wings to facilitate patient care.
  • Specific equipment: There will also be fitness rooms, isolation rooms and kitchens to meet the specific needs of these units.

This project, funded by the Walloon Region, is part of a global approach to improving the quality of life of people with mental health problems.
