The Dome

In the centre of Brussels, on the corner of Place de la Bourse, the imposing building topped by a dome will be demolished and rebuilt, while retaining 90% of its facades.  The 20,000 m² will be used for retail space (3 levels), offices (3 levels) and 55 flats (4 upper levels).

In the first phase, asbestos will be removed and the interior demolished. Only the structure consisting of metal beams and columns will be retained. A 2nd phase will involve reconstruction and finishing work. A central atrium will be created for the upper floors dedicated to housing. The façades will be clad with new cladding. The natural stone of the angular tower and the first floor will be preserved and restored.

As the site is right in the city centre (opposite the Brucity project), logistics and the transport of materials in the middle of a pedestrian zone will be the major constraints in a very tight 2 year schedule.
