Port quays
Construction of new quay wall
CIT Blaton carried out construction works on a new quay wall as part of the extension of the Port of Zeebrugge. This civil engineering project, for which CIT Blaton assumed part of the design, entailed a far greater quantity of steel and concrete than an ordinary project. 726 m long and 15.25 m wide, the Zeebrugge quay wall required the construction of deep foundations, 25 m deep diaphragm walls , and the use of more than 18,150 m³ of concrete and 440 pressure piles, each 24.5 m long. The mixed geology caused quite a number of problems for the performance of the earth moving works. A drawdown proved necessary because of the underground water table which was virtually flush with the existing ground level.
