CIT Blaton and Bam Galère were selected to build the convention centre and its integrated parking facilities including 150 and 200 spaces and to landscape the site. The integration of sustainable development and operating costs was a decisive awarding criterion.
The contractors used a wide range of techniques to erect a building with a high energy and technology performance: optimisation of glazed surfaces, highly efficient insulation (K 20), co-generation system, photovoltaic installations, cooling ventilation, high efficiency boilers, low-consumption lighting, ... The works took place executed over a period of only 22 months, thanks to a construction process unique in Belgium. The centre is composed of an entrance hall, a multi-purpose event hall (capacity 500 seats), two auditoriums around an exhibition area which opens on two levels, and an underground car park. CIT Blaton won the “Innovation Award 2015” given by the Construction Confederation for the construction of the curved façade in concrete.
