Modelling of the metal structure

At Mechelen station, new 200 m long platforms were recently built to accommodate large trains. We were selected to build the roof and the façade of this new section. Since no accurate reference points were available, it was necessary to scan the entire structure with a high-precision laser to obtain a detailed inventory of the existing elements. Based on this 3D model, our BIM expert was able to position the metal frame on the platform with great accuracy. Over 500 anchor points were defined to secure the 12 feet of the metal structure. Ultimately, this 3D preparation work saved precious time and facilitated the arch positioning work, thus delivering a high level of quality.
