Before the new MEPs and their assistants could move in, the ALTIERO SPINELLI and WILLY BRANDT buildings of the European Parliament in Brussels had to undergo complete renovation works. Close to 2,000 offices, lobbies, corridors and halls over a total surface area of 60,000 m² were completely emptied and refurbished (coverings, paint works, etc.) in order to install brand new furniture. It took 17 weeks to upgrade the buildings: a record time! 150 offices had to be delivered each week. In order to meet these deadlines, an extremely detailed schedule was set up and monitored hourly by nine works supervisors who worked during the weekends if necessary. In addition, the five entrances were fitted with high-level security facilities and eleven service lifts.
