Construction of a hospital
The Centre Hospitalier de Wallonie picarde (CHwapi) project brings together on a single site all the beds of the Tournai regional hospital. The hospital consists of a base supporting three rectangular wings and two highly modular prisms allowing rapid changes if necessary. Designed in the shape of an atrium rising on three floors, the medical and public base includes the general lobby of the hospital as well as retail and hospitality units. Outpatient departments are arranged around gardens and patios. The 2 prisms above this base hold 708 standard hospital beds and 140 outpatient beds. The forecourt of the hospital centre is laid out as a vast esplanade providing access to the public. There is a 1,000-space underground car park.
